This is mostly a reminder update with some new information worked in.
First up, I will be at the Stumptown Comics Fest this weekend, sharing table C-25 with Kip Manley and occasionally a crazy toddler. I will actually only be at the table Saturday until morning 12:30 and only from 3pm to closing on Sunday. This is mostly to spare the Comic Fest from toddler rampages by removing her from the premises.
The times of my coming and going are dictated by the workshop I’m giving on Saturday and the panel I’ll be on Sunday:
Color in Storytelling: Theory and Practice • Saturday, April 16th • 1:00-1:45pm in Room A103
A practical demonstration of how color can effect the mood, setting and meaning of your story. Jenn Manley Lee explores the process of gathering color inspiration then how to create and apply a color palette to get the effect you desire.
This’ll actually be more of a presentation and polemic on my part than an actual workshop. I do plan to leave the last 15 minutes for questions, debate and requests for dumb coloring tricks.
Worldbuilding • Sunday, April 17th • 2:00-2:45pm in Room A106
Evan Dahm moderates a discussion featuring Carla Speed McNeil, Barry Deutsch, Jenn Manley Lee, Larry Marder, and Kel McDonald, as they share the challenges and rewards of intricate, in-depth world-building for your own fictional settings.
This is personally a panel I would go to even if I wasn’t sitting on stage. I’m looking forward to seeing what these people say and wondering if I’ll even get a word in edge-wise ‘tween Carla and Barry.
As for Dicebox, I’m still working to get Book 1 out. I really, really want to thank folks for continuing to place pre-orders and remind those considering that every one helps me to satisfy the print bill for this 324 page book. Again, I will be taking pre-orders at Stumptown with a no-shipping cost incentive to boot! (For the curious, $3500 left to go!)
And I will have at least one new print at Stumptown, the Asides cover whose process I started to document last week. I have the next stage of that art and beyond to share, just haven’t had time to write and post it. I will do so tonight!
